Knockout Literary Magazine, edited by Jeremy Halinen and Brett Ortler, first came out in 2007.  The first issue included nationally and internationally known authors such as Marvin Bell, Billy Collins, and Robert Bly, as well as young, up-and-coming writers and unpublished writers.  In addition, half of the proceeds of the first issue went to charity — to the Valentino Achak Deng Foundation — which seeks to improve educational opportunities for those in Southern Sudan.

The first issue was all poetry, but KO #2 will include short prose and interviews.  Future issues (and this blog) will contain music reviews, additional interviews, and whatever else we think you might like.  For more information, email the editors at, or visit the website and pick up an issue at
